Yole: Young Leonardos

In Spanish below:

Think for one moment on the word vision*, it means at he same time to see and also anticipation, imaging the future. Having it in mind Young Leonardos Initiative: Yole, is a platform to imagine, to think the relationship between knowledge, creativity and critical thinking but projected to the future. What does it mean? thinking on projects that are involving young people, the people that actually represent the future.

The new generations around the planet are drawing on the best ideas and tools in the arts and sciences to bring about new possibilities. We call them Young Leonardos.

The perspective of the project is simple, on one hand it is descriptive and analytical, the sources are initiatives, projects, workshops around the world working on the interaction of arts, sciences and new technologies involving people young people.

The first step is to create a data base to describe, comment and analyze those projects. It is important because there are many interesting initiatives but it is difficult to have a space to think about it and also sharing information can contribute to the implementation of new ideas, new projects, new workshops.

On the other hand, Yole want to interact directly on that kind of initiatives and projects. The participation can be in different levels: designing, implementing or documenting projects. Those processes will be also discussed by the working group and published on the web site.

Concrete Steps:

A. Create a working group of people interested in developing a network and helping projects of Young Leonardos.
The host is in LEF

B. Invite people to participate on Yole, the diverse, the better.

C. Create a web site and a data base or resources.
The host is in LEF

D. Discuss new events coming.

natural disasters

Dear YOLE friends,

I sit here in Marseille wondering about how to respond to the natural
disaster
in Myanmar. We see the disaster being instrumentalised by politicians.
In
a similar situation with the Tsunami in the Indian Ocean , we tried to
work
through the UNESCO Digiarts project to see how to help, but all these
efforts
seem adhoc, and reactive rather than systemic and pro active.

I am an Apple user, but not necessarily an Apple fan. I think there is a mistake to create "religions" based on computer preferences. However after analyzing some projects like OLCP focused on the education for kids the question about computing and education for teenagers and young people became obvious.

I am just reading the book "Math and the Mona Lisa" by Bulent Atalay-
this is an interesting book looking at the interpenetration of both art and
science of ideas from math - the mysterious effectiveness of mathematics
as eugene wigner called it

Atalay in his introduction refers to the John Hopkins Center for Talented Youth
