The midterm presentations today were really interesting. A lot of the group’s ideas were quite creative in their use of nano-technology. A few in particular were the nandage and the zombie-killing grenade(because the zombie apocalypse is inevitable). The nandage I thought was cool because it was one of the most practical useful ideas of the lot. It was a bandage that was made of a rubbery-malleable substance that could be wrapped around a broken limb like a cast and when extreme heat or cold were added the wrap would change properties. After the patient had his or her arm wrapped in the nandage hot water would be added and it would become hard like a plaster cast and if need be cold water can be readily pored onto the cast and it would become soft. The nandage also has vitamins and special chemicals that promote the healing and comfort of the wearer. The other idea i found really creative was the zombie grenade. The grenade is similar to a smoke grenade in the way that it releases nano-particles that float in the air. When these particles are absorbed into the skin, inhaled, or ingested they have a protein in them that deteriorates the zombie’s (or and other life-form for the matter) brain. Everyone knows that the only way to kill a zombie is to damage the cerebellum of the brain or let it starve to death, unless of coarse you are in the resident evil universe and the zombies do not require food to live. The one flaw I see with this idea is that it is useable on any other living thing and the nano-particles sit in the air for extended periods of time making the infected area completely inhabitable. I fear that this weapon would not only be used on zombies but also on people lessening the chance that the human race would survive the zombie apocalypse. Everyones idea were great but were not without their holes, but what can you expect from imagining the impossible?!
