Two weeks have past and Sci/Art Summer Program has ended. A part of me is happy about this; no more lectures in the early morning and no blogs or projects to worry about. However, another part of me feels sad. I will definitely miss all of my new friends and our counselors and teachers we saw and interacted with everyday.
As I think about it more, I realize there were some lectures that I actually did enjoy. Some topics that I still remember are the microscopes, the quantum dots, silver nanoparticles, and the mystery of vaults. Though I have to look back to my notes for all the details, I feel like I’ll always remember the general gist and feeling of these topics.
The labs were definitely the best part of the learning experience of this program. I learn best when I experience things myself, so seeing the experiments being done in front of me gave me a break from sitting in the lecture hall and helped me learn more than I thought I would. I felt the first week went by slower than the second, probably because of the fact that the first week had more lectures and less labs and free-time to do our projects. Maybe if there were more labs to help students stay awake (J) during the first week, the students might look forward to the next day a little more.
This is my first time staying so long away from home and living in dorms. This experience brought me closer to everyone and helped me open up a little faster and helped me gain a little confidence. All the social events during the two weeks were great. Some teachers might think that these should be cut down due to the lack of sleep the students get, but these events are what keeps the students lively and comfortable with each other. Overall, I had fun learning about nanotechnology and the relationship between science and art, and getting to know everyone here. I would definitely want to take this course like this again in future summers.
