Most of the group went and saw Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince this morning at the midnight showing. I was quite exited to see it because even though I haven’t read any of the books past the 3rd, I still enjoy watching the movies. The half-Blood prince was rated PG which was kind of lame because the fight scenes are not nearly as cool or as accurate as they could have been had it been rated higher. The reasoning behind the decision to make it PG is understandable because the investors want to make money and a movie with a cult following and a huge range of demographics is a money making machine. The movie broke the midnight showing record for money made beating the The Dark Knight’s record of 18 million with a new one of 22.3 million dollars.

Now for my take on the movie. Overall I liked it, it ties for my favorite one with the 4th movie. Specifically I like this one because Harry Potter and company are older and more relatable to myself(even though they use magic). They struggle to do what is right and responsible and with the opposite sex making for some funny and awkward moments between the characters. The plot of the story was good, revealing the ways to take down Voldemort but also snatching away Harry’s closest path to accomplishing this goal. Albus Dumbledor dies towards the end of the story which was quite sad because he was quite a prominent character in the books. J.K. Rowling reveals that Voldemort split his soul seven times into seven different items called horcruxes. Harry’s quest to destroy all of these horcruxes and Voldemort himself is revealed as the plot for the final installment to the series. It could not come soon enough.
