Today was our last real day in the SciArt summer program and looking back, I realize it was such an unforgettable experience. Upon arrival at the program, I had no idea what to expect. The thing that really attracted me to UCLA was having an interest in both science and art. In this program we saw how artists are using science to create their work and how scientist must many times think creatively like an artist to carry out their experiments and research. I really enjoyed going to the labs and seeing all of the amazing things that were going on. I had no idea that such advanced technology coming out.
After this experience, I found that I really am not interested in science. I find it extremely interesting and I love thinking of all the new possibilities that humans are capable of, but when it comes to the actual science and the research involved, I find that I really am not interested. This may come off as me saying that I did not think the program was interesting or that it did not stimulate me enough, but it really just pointed me in the right direction. It is better that I find out this field is not for me now instead of 5 years and thousands of dollars in college tuition down the road.
Aside from the actual work, I think that I have learned a lot in the social aspects of the camp as well. Living in Florida, my experience with west coast people and culture is severely limited and being at this program, showed me how people live very differently in different places. Overall, I had such an amazing time and I want to thank everybody for all their hard work in putting this program together and making it so amazing for both myself and all the other participants.
