Roy Ascott, Founding Director of the Planetary Collegium, is Professor of Technoetics in the University of Plymouth, England and Adjunct Professor in Design | Media Arts at the University of California Los Angeles. Amongst many senior academic and advisory appointments he was the Founding Director of CAiiA-STAR at the University of Wales College Newport and Plymouth University (which has evolved into the Planetary Collegium) ; Vice-President and Dean of the San Francisco Art Institute; Professor of Communications Theory, University of Applied Arts, Vienna; Professor and Chair of Fine Art, Minneapolis College of Art & Design; and President of the Ontario College of Art. His first appointment was in London at Ealing School of Art , where he established the radical Groundcourse. Also in London, he taught at the Slade, St. Martin's and the Central. He studied Fine Art under Victor Pasmore and Richard Hamilton, and Art History under Sir Lawrence Gowing and Quentin Bell. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1972 and Associate of the Institution of Computer Sciences, London in 1968. He has served on the Art and Media Panel of the Arts and Humanities Research Council, and the Arts Council of England.
