02 OCTOBER 2014
CNSI ART|SCI GALLERY

Curated by Mick Lorusso, this unique
exhibition evoked the ancient human
relationships that we have formed with
silk worms, and now with bacteria as the
“chassis” for the production of silk in
the laboratory.

“Seres: Inhabitants of the Land of Silk”
features the work of Jason Fahrion, an
Orange County based artist/culturalist/
provocateur who uses the ancient process
of sericulture—the raising of live
silkworms—to create organic mosaics of
spun silk.

A collaborative partnership between
the UCLA Art|Sci Center and the UCLA
International Genetically Engineered
Machine team, the exhibit aimed to tell
the many threaded stories of the magical
silk—an inspiration across disciplines,
both within art studios and in labs.
