Call for Postdoctoral Fellow Applications [UCLA Institute for Society and Genetics]

The UCLA Institute for Society and Genetics (ISG) will provide one or two postdoctoral fellowships for candidates with an outstanding record whose scholarly work contributes to the Institute and tackles critical issues of the interactions between society and biology, from a cross-disciplinary perspective. We especially encourage novel approaches to the possibilities and tensions created by genetics and genomics for the individual and society. Some themes central to our interests include epigenetics and epigenomics; bioethics and public science policy; medical genetics and public health; population genetics and history (and the nexus of studies of human genetics, archeology, linguistics, history and culture); evolutionary biology, culture and behavior; and historical and social studies of science.

All fellows are expected to actively participate in the life of the Institute: to attend the Institute Colloquia and Workshops; to attend the scheduled ISG fellows’ meetings and make at least one formal presentation; to teach two classes per year in the Human Biology and Society majors; and to produce scholarly works.

The salary for each position is competitive and includes health insurance, plus a $1500 stipend for conference fees, travel, research equipment/supplies, and other research-related expenses. Salary will be determined based on experience and percent time of the position.

Eligibility: Applicants who received the Ph.D. degree after September 2009, or who will complete all requirements (including filing the dissertation) by June 30, 2014, are eligible to apply.
