Planetary Collective’s film “Overview” will be shown as part of the AstroArt Programme in collaboration with Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) Global Astronomy Month (GAM) on April 12, from 14:30 to 16:30 UT.

The film, which has garnered more than 1.7 plays on Vimeo since its premiere at Harvard University on December 7, 2012, features interviews with five astronauts and portrays the enormous power of the Overview Effect (the cognitive shift resulting from seeing the Earth from space and in space) in words and images.

Students who will be getting an M.A., M.F.A. or Ph.D. on a subject related to the intersection of art, science and technology are encouraged to submit an abstract of their thesis to LABS (Leonardo Abstract Services). This peer-reviewed database has been in existence for over 10 years and functions as a way for international artists and scholars to learn about the work of the next generation.

To celebrate Opening Day at Pier 15, the Exploratorium will offer free, outdoor programming from morning to night. On Wednesday, April 17, 2013, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing throughout the day, artists, special guests, volunteers, and Explainers will offer a variety of surprises and hands-on activities for people waiting in line. The doors officially open at 10:00 a.m. after a distinctly Exploratorium ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Network Music Performance (NMP) is an area of study that focuses on various music practices that occur on networks. The focus of this degree will be to explore advanced applications of live, interactive music performances on high-speed research networks. A critical mass of literature and documented practice now allows us to support this degree which will be issued by CCOM with the support of a global academic Network of Advisers.
