Implanted Biofuel Cell Operating in a Living Snail

March 8, 2012.  Implantable biofuel cells have been suggested as sustainable micropower sources operating in living organisms, but such bioelectronic systems are still exotic and very challenging to design. Very few examples of abiotic and enzyme-based biofuel cells operating in animals in vivo have been reported. Implantation of biocatalytic electrodes and extraction of electrical power from small living creatures is even more difficult and has not been achieved to date.

Molecular dance set to make waves across the pond

"A radical fusion of quantum molecular dynamics, digital art and electronic music developed at the University of Bristol, UK, is set to go transatlantic. Danceroom Spectroscopy (dS), developed by Milwaukee-born theoretical chemist David Glowacki, has wowed scientists, artists and the general public across the UK. And he is now gearing up to present his work at the South by Southwest interactive festival in Austin, Texas later this month."

Transdisciplinary Visual Arts, Science & Technology Renewal Post-New Media Assimilation workshop

Introduction

At the ISEA 2011 conference, Istanbul (17 September), and the Rewire fourth International conference on the history of Media Art, Science and Technology, Liverpool (27 September), delegates were provided with two linked opportunities to take a close look at current practice in art education and to consider the relevance of a transdisciplinary approach to post media art assimilation. Both conferences focussed on new media theory and practice, with the Rewire conference providing a tighter focus on the histories of digital arts.

Residency Fellowships in kinetic art, sound sculpture, time-based art

Preference will be given to work that draws its form, content, and materials from current technology.

From NPR -- It begins on the sun's surface: a broad, hellish plain of boiling 5,700 degree gas. Powerful magnetic fields arc upwards from the surface, rising high into the solar atmosphere to form giant, twisting arcades of energy. Matter streams up these arches to be gripped in a magnetic vise a million miles above the surface. Then something happens. Something shifts.
